Hi, I’m Kerstin!
Oceanographer in
training with an interest in
science communication,
teaching and environmental policy.
I will graduate with a PhD from Scripps
Institution of Oceanography in 2026 and
am looking for my next opportunity.
My superpowers
Data analysis
I have experience using both Matlab and Python to analyze various kinds of oceanographic data with a focus on Lagrangian instruments, air-sea interactions and internal waves
Teaching & mentoring
I have TA’d, hold multiple teaching certificates and recently co-organized a three-week summer course on ocean mixing and turbulence in 2025
Fieldwork
I’ve done multiple international scientific cruises and have experience with the deployment and recovery of several types of oceanographic equipment
Science communication
I’m a two-time UNFCCC Conference Of the Parties delegate, I regularly write for Scripps Magazine Explorations Now, and organize the Scripps Student Symposium
Scientific illustrations
& photography
I use visual tools and my camera to help tell the science story behind my research
Biography
Born and raised in Sweden, I hold a BSc in Industrial Design Engineering, a BSc in Physical Geography and Ecosystem Science, and an MSc by coursework in Physical Oceanography.
Being interdisciplinary is core to who I am, and I strive to combine my skills and interests to bridge what I perceive to be a gap in the way we do and talk about science.
Projects

Eddies and Waves
#research
My dissertation work focuses on multiscale interactions between the ocean and the atmosphere, from wind-driven oscillations to turbulence.

COMCEPTS
#teaching
Together with a group of other graduate students at Scripps, I organized a three-week summer school on ocean turbulence and mixing, which included both lectures and a fieldwork component.
